Environmental Insurance for Corporate Environmental Responsibility (CER)

On June 16th 2014, EU-China Environmental Governance Programme (EGP) co-hosted an international workshop with PRCEE on Environmental Insurance for corporate environmental responsibility (CER). The workshop was supported by the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) and China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC). The purpose of this workshop is to discuss how to strengthen corporate environmental responsibility by applying and improving environmental pollution liability insurance. Mr. Yuan Qingdan, the vice director of PRCEE was the moderate of the workshop.

Mr. Bie Tao, General Deputy Director of Policy and Law MEP,  Mr. Cai Yu, Vice General Secretary of The Insurance Institute of China, Mr. Xu Lu, General Manager of Pingan Insurance Corporation and Mr. Qin Yuguo from PICC presented on their analysis on the environmental insurance regulations and challenges on its application. Meanwhile, international experts shared their experience on insurance in the environmental context on the prospective risk management and legacy pollution remediation, and using insurance as a financial assurance mechanism for both businesses and governments. In the afternoon, delegates from Anhui and Hunan provinces shared their local experience and challenges. 

Dimitri de Boer, the EGP team leader introduced the programme and its fourth theme on CER with regard to the workshop.
