Environmental Governance Hall of Fame

2014/3/5 11:20:07

On the evening of February 27, 2014, EU - China Environmental Governance Programme and PRCEE jointly held a speaking and networking event ‘Environmental Governance Hall of Fame’ in Beijing, featuring Mr. Manish Bapna, Managing Director of World Resources Institute.

Mr. Lars Groenvald from the EU Delegation China, Mr. Tu. Ruihe and Mr. Bie Tao from the Ministry of Environmental Protection gave their comments on the above subject, as well as Mr. Ren Yong, Mr. Zhan Zhiming, Mr. Jiafeng and Ms Tang Yaping. The event was attended by a number of officials from Ministry of Environmental Protection and the EU Delegation in China, with about 80 high-profile audiences from Chinese and international groups.

Mr. Manish Bapna presented an overview of how environmental governance helps to protect the world’s resources around the world. He took stock of the progress that has been made in advancing the Principle 10 agenda (access to info, access to justice, participation in decision-making) around the world, drawing lessons in particular from the work of The Access Initiative over the past twelve years, and considering case studies which offer poignant examples of what transparency can do in terms of sustainable resources management. He also introduced how the convergence of advanced satellite data and crowd-sourced information offers unprecedented opportunities to bring radical transparency and bottom up accountability to the management of resources.

The event also publicly introduced Mr. Yuan Qingdan (The vice director of PRCEE) as the new Project Director of EGP, and the new EGP team leader, Mr. Dimitri de Boer.

The event was the first in the series of ‘Hall of Fame’ events, many more of which are expected to take place in the coming years.
