Developing a Pilot Regional Pollution Release and Transfer Register (PRTR) in Tianjin

One of the local EU-China Environmental Governance Programme Partnership Project – ‘Developing a Pilot Regional Pollution Release and Transfer Register (PRTR) in Tianjin Binhai New Area, China’ was hold in Tianjin on January 15th, 2013. TEDA Eco Center is going to implement this project with its 3 partners Tianjin Environmental Protection Association, International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE)-Lund University and Institution of Public and Environmental Affairs (IPE) in the following 2 years.
The official launch event is followed by a meeting between the donor’s representative from the EU Delegation with MEP and the local Chinese officials. Mr. Johan Cauwenbergh, Minister Counselor of the EU Delegation, Mr. Bie Tao, , Deputy Director General, Department of. Policies, Laws and Regulations, MEP and Mr. Zhang Jun, Deputy Director of TEDA Administrative Committee changed views and thoughts for the EGP operations and implementation of the local partnership project in TEDA. The local governors address their support to the project implementation and followed with presentations on the project progress plan and outputs.
The project is aim to stimulate and support pollution and waste reduction by means of establishing a publicly accessible pilot regional Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (PRTR) in Tianjin Binhai New Area (TBNA). It is also expected to be a seed to other Chinese areas on PRTR application in the near future.
